Seismic Risk Assessment & Strengthening Design
CCS Group has assisted the Brown-Forman Corporation for many years in identifying and mitigating life safety hazards and significant hazards affecting business operations at the Louisville Production Operations, Peak 10 Data Center, Early Times Distillery, and Jack Daniel Distillery.
Major aspects of the seismic risk assessment and seismic mitigation projects have included the following:
Major aspects of the seismic risk assessment and seismic mitigation projects have included the following:
- Performed Probable Maximum Loss (PML) studies for seismic hazards affecting the Louisville Production Facility and the Jack Daniel Distillery to aid in risk management decisions and insurance purposes. PML studies provide an estimate of seismic damage to the facility expressed as a percentage of the building replacement cost.
- Performed a risk assessment for potential seismic deficiencies for buildings and nonstructural components at the Louisville Production Operations, Peak 10 Data Center, Early Times Distillery, and Jack Daniel Distillery. Seismic ground motion is not very high at these sites, therefore the risk assessments focused on Life Safety hazards and vulnerable equipment with long lead times for replacement, where significant seismic damage would result in extended business interruption.
- Developed seismic strengthening details for nonstructural components (Life Safety hazards and critical components including fire protection systems, natural-gas fired equipment and piping, large tanks, storage racks, data racks and production equipment) at all four sites. Construction documents were prepared for the identified deficient nonstructural components.
- Performed a structural earthquake risk assessment for new barrel storage warehouses and infrastructure systems at the Jack Daniel Distillery. Recommendations were provided for contractor implementation and the installations were confirmed with site inspections.
- Update seismic risk assessment for the Jack Daniel Distillery to reflect nonstructural mitigation that has been performed by the Brown-Forman Corporation. Provide addition nonstructural anchorage and bracing details for equipment that has been installed subsequent to the original seismic risk assessment.
