The project included performing FEMA P-154 Rapid Visual Screening (RVS) and nonstructural hazard surveys for the Tunica County School District in Mississippi.  The following school campuses were reviewed:
  • Dundee Elementary
  • Robinsonville Elementary
  • Tunica Elementary
  • Tunica Middle School
  • Rosa Fort High School
Seismic screening was performed in accordance with the Third Edition of FEMA P-154 with Level 1 and Level 2 screening completed for each building.  Thirty eight buildings were evaluated across the 5 school campuses.  The predominant building types were unreinforced masonry bearing walls (13 buildings), precast concrete frames (7 buildings), and steel light frames (9 buildings).  Approximately two-thirds of the buildings were constructed prior to 1990 and do not appear to have been designed to resist seismic forces.
A comprehensive report was prepared to document the findings and provide recommendations for further evaluation of the potential life safety hazards that were identified for the buildings and nonstructural components.
